I am a thirty something year old male with an endomorphic disposition who has dabbled with sports since early childhood but have never performed at any serious level. Nonetheless I enjoy to challenge my mind and body.
I have cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End in just over one week, completed the Marmotte cyclosportive three times (each time in around 10 hours), cycled 4,300 kilometres from Buenos Aires to Cusco in 2 months and cycled all over the Swiss Alps. My current PB for a marathon (I have only ever done one marathon so far) is 3 hours 29 minutes and 51 seconds and for the half marathon it is 1 hour 35 minutes, which is not too bad as I certainly dont consider myself a runner by nature. My best time for a 25 mile cycling time trial is 1 hour and 2 minutes. At some point I would like to get my 25 mile time trial time under 1 hour and my half marathon time under 1 hour 25, but they are not my main targets for now.
Having earlier this year completed the 27th Marathon des Sables, I am currently focussed on training for the Pisa marathon in December, and would like to complete it in under 3 hours if possible.
My list of past and current challenges since the creation of this blog:
1) First ever marathon - Status: done (completed Zurich marathon on April 17th, 2011 in 3 hours 29 minutes and 51 seconds)
2) Marmotte cyclosportive for the 3rd time - over 5000m of vertical climbing in one day - Status: done (completed on 2nd July, 2011 in an end to end time (including Glandon descent) of 10 hours 1 minute and 20 seconds)
3) Climb Kilimanjaro - Status: done (climbed via Lemosho route from 9th to 15th September, 2011)
4) Cycling from Buenos Aires to Cusco over the Andes with Tour d'Afrique, covering over 5,000km - Status: done (although distance was slightly shorter than 5,000km due to 3.5 sick days on truck and strikes in Bolivia)
5) Marathon des Sables 2012 - Status: done (553rd out of 795 finishers and 59 abandons)
6) Pisa marathon - 16th December 2012
